Yesterday was Louisa and I’s two year anniversary. It was great. I got her an Ipod which she’s been wanting for a really long time now. I don’t like it though feels really clunky to use but the interface and size are attractive. So I also got her a really nice diamond ring. 18k gold and a small but reasonably pure diamond. I think she liked even if it was marginally too small, but she did manage to squeeze it on her finger last night.
We went for dinner at a French restaurant here in Adelaide called La Guiotine. It’s a lovely little establishment furnished in an old country feeling style. The tables were old and really nice and sturdy - nothing worse than a wobbly cheap table.
The food was pretty nice - but not worth the overall price tag - but worth it to make my precious girl happy :D. I tried the escargot as a starter mmm snails.
Overall I think I did okay - I could have been more romantic but I’m not real good at that unfortunately. I hope she didn’t mind.
Ps I wish I could write like Ashley, I should spent more time and not do this at work!
There is a particular customer of ours running a medical surgery in fact we have many. However this customer has decided to relocate at very short notice and expect us to be able to connect a service within a single day. This is not possible. Apparently lives will be lost if we cannot do this by Monday.
If the internet is this important to you please for the love of god invest in redundancy. A 3g broadband connection is fairly cheap (surely to a business with this much importance on connectivity) and will get you through a pinch - save your patients from dying and buy you time till a more stable speedier connection can be established - better still plan ahead if you need a connection two weeks from now you should have organized everything two weeks ago (if your internet is THIS important).
Also we don’t care if you have a certain account manager within a certain major Australian telecommunications company - they can’t help us and we can’t help them the industry doesn’t work that way. There are legal, technical and physical reasons why this is the case.
Also don’t got to the TIO it wont help - we’ll get whacked a few hundred dollars for your complaint only for you to be told to GTFO and read the standard form of agreement + Major telecommunications company I’m loathe to name’s service specification documents. The time frames are there for a reason please work around them.
So in short - but into redundant internet access if going off line is going to cost lives, zillions of dollars or your first born.
Thank you.
So as a new expert to the language of ‘Kiwi’ I felt it was my duty to teach Ashley - Here is lesson one and two of ‘Kiwi’. I started with a classic quote below:
Nic : ey bro lets put our beers in the chilli bin (Translates to ‘ Hey friend lets put our beers into the Esky’.)
Thats kiwi
Sent at 3:38 PM on Tuesday
Nic : I will teach you Kiwi
If you want
Ash : Okay.
That would be good.
Nic : Okay
Whenever you say "peg" you need to say "pig" instead
Ash : But I don’t say peg very often.
Nic : Same with "Keg"
It’s "Kig"
Sent at 3:54 PM on Tuesday
Nic : That rule can be applied to anything which sounds similar
That’s lesson 1.
Lesson two "Fag" is said "Feg"
Ey bro - you are a gay Feg
That breaks the first rule as it doesn’t turn into "Fig"
New Zulland (the offical way to say New Zealand in New Zealand) Is a hard thing to learn.
That my friends is the first two lessons on how to speak ‘Kiwi’ Hope this helps if you’re ever planning to go to NZ. I’ve been there and the people used to scare me with their speech - not anymore!
I’ve recently registered the domain www.lolnic.com and it links to here! So for some reason or other you’d like to get to my blog you can also use www.lolnic.com to get here!
I bet you’re all excited about this and cannot wait to tell all your friends!
On a side note Business Sales is great here at Internode. Some of the sales processes are a little archaic - especially in the back ground but the people are awesome, the atmosphere is generally great and I get paid a little more. Unfortunately not huge amounts more - but I can’t have everything.
I’m hoping this will pan out to be a great opportunity for me and I really look forward to making the most out of this!
The obligary picture post - all blogs must have one of these. I was going through my phones gallery and I found some fairly amusing photos - some not obvious.
Fire hydrant! (potentially not worksafe - but i’m linking it in full veiw anyway! Harr)

Homie G’s

Gives the Death!

And finally! The Hoodoo Guru’s at the Node christmas party - with about 5 people watching!

Today I finally decided that social networking could be fun and more than just a waste of time. I’m still not convinced that it’s really worthwhile but I’m exploring it all the same. I realised though that the majority of my friends on Facebook I don’t see anymore - or care about. Maybe I need to do a major cull and just surround myself with peeps whom I actually do socialise with OR intend to at least.
I really wonder if it could improve my social life though. I don’t have A huge amount of friends and I’m mostly okay with that - but I really don’t have too many super close friends - my "best" friend ( I always feel awkward with that term) is in Brisbane and there’s nobody I’ve met yet that can come close to matching him.
I suppose this is an experiment into the Intarnets, perhaps this is the start of a new endeavour! My life to a degree is falling into an era of mediocrity and I’m trying to claw my way out.
Today after Louisa had finished work we went for a walk around the general Central Market area. We found a Little OP shopish place on Gouger Street and I came across a neat little old camera. It’s a Minolta 450e which was very popular “pocket camera”. More info here: 450e
It uses 110 mm film which is pretty much impossible to get these days but I do find it on Ebay for 22 dollars and three rolls which is a reasonable price :).
After the find we ended up getting some Schezuan and dumplings at a nearby restaurant. I should really start taking the names of these places down as it’s well worth checking out. I ate more than my fair share as it was delicious! :).
Turtleneck sweaters are very cool and I’ll be sure to rock one this winter. I actually just purchased one on E-bay. Hopefully it comes quickly - I want to rock it.
I’m ho hum about winter at the moment. It makes my skin look crappy, at the moment it’s rainy so my hair gets wet and looks shitty. But it’s good in that I can hides my fat deposits with layers.
I’m going to be that weirdo turtleneck guy and I can’t wait.
What’re yall going to rock out in this winter?
It just dawned on me that I miss having my desktop with me on the go. My locked down Windows XP installation at work is boring, unproductive (from a personal stand point - definitely not theirs!) and doesn’t allow me to keep up to do with my goings on.
I want to be able to carry a fairly mobile device and it’s charger with me everywhere (not hard with my man bag) Unfortunately my laptop is too large and it’s battery life is fair.
I’ve been considering an Eee PC for this purpose as it seems to be fit the bill. I’d like it to be able to run the Gnome desktop - basically be a clone of my desktop minus the specialness :). But generally i want it to sync with my desktop so I can takes my Internet life with me on the go.
I mainly just want it for emails. Gtwitter, Liferea, Drivel and hopefully eventually for some web design purposes if I ever stop being lazy and learn what I’m doing there.
I really need to do some research into this but I really wish there was some loan basis on devices - so I can do whatever i like with it and see if it suits my purpose and is powerful enough for my uses. I can’t see how it wouldn’t be as it doesn’t need to be particularly powerful or have huge amounts of storage.
I wish this was going to be a fun day of lazing around and being generally really cool. However it’s a day of cleaning and cleaning animal messes. This sucks.
In saying that however I’m making progress in completely moving across to Ubuntu. For example I just deleted my Windows partition. Now I just need to join it to my main partition. How to do?
I’m going to miss this house. It’s nice and big and great. Louisa’s house is fine and all - it’s just small and i don’t like being boxed in.
